Every other Thursday, Patch Elementary students roll up their sleeves and dive into Math Boot Camp! These special sessions are designed to help students strengthen not only their problem-solving skills but also their ability to explain their thinking through clear, constructed responses.

During Boot Camp, classroom teachers are joined by our wonderful specialists, who work alongside students in small groups. Together, they tackle challenging word problems that require more than just finding the right answer — students must also write to show how and why they solved the problem the way they did.

By focusing on explaining their reasoning, students are building essential skills in communication, critical thinking, and perseverance. These sessions encourage learners to slow down, reflect on their work, and use math vocabulary to clearly justify their answers.

The energy in the classrooms is contagious on Boot Camp days, with students collaborating, sharing strategies, and celebrating those “aha!” moments. With support from both teachers and specialists, our mathematicians are developing the confidence and skills they’ll use well beyond the classroom.

Patch Elementary is proud to see our students growing into thoughtful problem-solvers — one Boot Camp at a time!
