Principal Points

Dear Patch Families,

What a week it's been to have snow-much fun at Patch Elementary School!

Between snowy recesses and busy classrooms, students enjoyed a wonderful mix of fun and focused learning. Kindergartners explored trees through hands-on science activities, first-graders developed story problems for their classmates developing their writing skills while honing their math at the same time, third graders reviewed and prepared for upcoming math benchmark assessments, fourth graders continued developing their writing pieces, fifth graders worked on their peer editing and strengthening their writing content, and second graders dove into the traits of opinion and argumentative writing. Not to mention all of the great exploration and learning through play happening in UPK.  It truly was a week full of learning and good times across our school.

As we look ahead, please note that next week is a four-day week as Quarter 2 ends on Thursday, January 15. Friday, January 16 is a teacher workday, during which staff will be completing grades and verifying report cards, and students will not be in attendance. This bridges into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, creating a long weekend for our families.

With the changing winter weather, we kindly remind families to ensure students arrive at school dressed for the conditions. Snowy mornings and cold temperatures mean warm layers, coats, gloves, and appropriate footwear are essential. Layers can always come off as the day warms, but being prepared helps everyone enjoy outdoor time safely.

Looking ahead to upcoming events, the Installation Advisory Committee (IAC) meeting will take place on January 13 at Stuttgart High School. The Patch Elementary School Advisory Committee (SAC) will meet on January 21. Please click here for the agenda and meeting details.

We also completed vision and hearing screenings earlier this week and will continue screenings early next week. Dental screenings are scheduled for next month, and more information will be shared as those dates approach.

Finally, some exciting PTA events are coming up. Our PTA is preparing to launch Raise Craze in the coming weeks, and the annual Glow Dance is tentatively scheduled for February 6. More details will be shared soon.

Thank you for a great week, and we look forward to finishing out the quarter strong during our short week ahead. Have a wonderful weekend!

In service,
Dr. Quinland and Mr. Pieper
