Dear Patch Elementary School Families,
As the third quarter comes to a close, we want to thank you for your continued support and wish you a relaxing and fun spring break! When we return, we will resume our outdoor lineup process for arrival and dismissal. Please remember that students arriving late must enter through the front door to check in at the main office. We appreciate your help in keeping our routines smooth and safe.
This month’s Read Across America celebration, organized by our amazing PTA, wrapped up in a big way with a visit from the USAG Stuttgart Military Police. Students enjoyed read-alouds from the MPs and a live demonstration from police dog Tokyo, who showed off some exciting tricks and procedures. It was a great way to cap off a month filled with reading and community involvement!
It’s been a busy and joyful week on campus! Our beginner and intermediate Drama groups performed for families and classmates, and Kindergarten hosted a camping-themed literacy event complete with tents, canoes, and a s’mores station. In fourth grade, students explored science through disaster response experiments, while fifth graders completed butterfly habitat projects to wrap up their science unit. UPK invited parents to participate in their garden-themed centers that included tasting carrot cake and making seed paper. To top it all off, congratulations to Ms. Pedersen who claimed victory over Ms. Stueve in front of cheering students during lunch on Tuesday in the PTA’s Rock, Paper, Scissors staff competition.
April is Month of the Military Child where we'll celebrate all military and military-connected students. It's a privilege to support this unique and amazing population of students every day at Patch ES, and we can't wait to "Purple Up" next month!
It’s been a quarter filled with triumphs and challenges. We’re so proud of all that our students have accomplished this quarter and for the support our PES team receives from our school community —enjoy the break, don't forget to set your clocks back an hour this weekend, and we’ll see you back at school soon!

Script to Stage: Spectacular Students' Show Shines!
Last week, the elementary school theater club delighted parents, teachers, and fellow students with spectacular performances that showcased the incredible talent and creativity of our young stars. The evening began with a charming play by kindergarten, first, and second graders, who brought classic fables to life with their enthusiastic acting and colorful costumes. The audience was enchanted by their renditions of timeless tales, such as "The Tortoise and the Hare" and "The Lion and the Mouse," which were performed with heartwarming energy and flair.
The second half of the evening featured a twist on classic fairytales, presented by the third, fourth, and fifth graders. This imaginative production included beloved characters from Robin Hood, Peter Pan, and Snow White, all woven into a unique and entertaining storyline. The older students impressed everyone with their confident performances and clever dialogue, creating a magical experience that left the audience in awe. The theater club's dedication and hard work truly shone through, especially under the direction of Ms. Jessa Brown, making this event a memorable celebration of creativity and teamwork. Bravo to all our budding performers and volunteers!

In music, our whole school has been listening to, analyzing, and comparing songs from four different musical eras, in our annual March Music Madness. In four brackets of four songs each from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Impressionist/Modern eras, students have been voting on their favorites. We are down to our final four this week, and by the end of the quarter, we will have our grand champion. The students are taking their votes very seriously and are looking forward to crowning a champion for the school as well as seeing where our final votes stack up against the world-wide voting results. It has come down to Toccata and Fugue in D Minor, by JS Bach from the Baroque Period, Beethoven’s 5th Symphony from the Classical Period, Dance of the Little Swans, from Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky in the Romantic Period and Clair du Lune by Debussy. And the winner is...
Clair du Lune!

We've had a challenging few weeks with various illnesses, including strep throat, flu, bronchitis, and a stomach virus. Additionally, other viruses are causing symptoms like fatigue, dizziness, sore throat, and a persistent cough. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, please keep them at home.
According to DODEA guidelines, students with cold or flu-like symptoms should remain at home. Administering medication before school will not prevent the spread of illness to other students.
Medications should also stay at home unless they have been processed through the nurse's office with a doctor's note. Several students have been found with medication in their pockets or bookbags. Please note that medicine and cough drops are not allowed in school unless administered by parents in the presence of the nurse or administration. It is unsafe for children to carry medication in their backpacks.
Our goal is to maintain a safe and healthy community. If you have any questions, please contact me at Bethzaida.matos@dodea.edu. We hope you have a great and safe weekend.
