Dear Patch Elementary Families,
As we approach the end of April and look forward to the beginning of May, we want to take a moment to celebrate the wonderful events we've had this month and share some important updates.
Firstly, a heartfelt thank you to our PTA for organizing the Lunch with Loved Ones event in honor of the Month of the Military Child. It was a joy to see so many families coming together to celebrate and support our military children. There were so many smiling faces in the MPR!
We also had a fantastic Celebrate the Arts event, where Ms. Roos' choir gave a stunning performance of "I ❤️ Broadway." The talent and hard work of our students truly shone through, and it was a memorable evening for all.
As we wrap up the Month of the Military Child, we will have our final event, the Clap Out, on April 30. This is a special tradition where we show our appreciation and support for our military children. We hope to see many of you there to join in the celebration, and we encourage students to wear their MotMC shirts.
With all of these events happening lately, and throughout the school year, none of them would have been possible without our amazing and dedicated volunteers! This week we got to celebrate our PES volunteers with an appreciation breakfast and awards. We value every single one of you!
In academic news, third-grade testing has concluded, and makeup sessions will be scheduled soon. For our fourth and fifth graders, testing will begin on May 5 and continue through May 9. Please ensure your children are well-rested and prepared for these important assessments.
A quick reminder for parents: During morning arrival, students should line up outside in the corral, not inside the building. This helps us manage a smooth and safe start to the day.
Lastly, please note that there will be no school for students on May 2 due to a teacher training day. We appreciate your understanding and support as our teachers engage in professional development.
Thank you for your continued involvement and support in making Patch Elementary School a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow.
In Service,
Dr. Quinland and Mr. Pieper

🧠💬 Why Being Multilingual is Awesome! 💬🧠
Did you know that speaking more than one language is like having a secret superpower? It’s true! People who are multilingual—that means they speak, understand, or are learning more than one language—have some amazing skills.
When you're multilingual:
✅ Your brain gets stronger! Learning and using more than one language helps your memory, your focus, and your ability to solve problems.
✅ You can talk to more people from different places and make new friends from all over the world.
✅ You get to understand and enjoy more cultures—like music, food, holidays, stories, and cool traditions.
✅ You become a great communicator, because you’re always learning how to say things in different ways.
✅ You’re more creative and flexible—you can see the world from different points of view!
Being multilingual doesn’t mean you have to stop using your home language—it means you’re adding more language power to your life. Every language you know is a part of who you are, and it’s something to be proud of.
So during Multilingual Learner Month, let’s celebrate the awesome things our languages can do. Whether you speak one language, two, or even more—keep learning, keep sharing, and keep being you!
🌟 Multilingual = Mighty! 🌟

Lunch with Loved Ones: Celebrating Community Connections
Patch Elementary School recently celebrated the Month of the Military Child with a heartwarming Lunch with Loved Ones event, organized by our dedicated PTA. This special occasion brought together families and friends to honor and support our military children. The event was filled with laughter, joy, and a sense of community as students shared a meal with their loved ones. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to connect and show appreciation for the unique challenges and contributions of military families.

Musical Magic: A Night of Broadway Brilliance
During the PTA's Celebrate the Arts night, Patch Elementary School was treated to a spectacular musical performance titled "I ❤️ Broadway: A Salute to Musical Theater." The event featured an array of beloved songs from iconic Broadway musicals such as Annie, The Wiz, Matilda, Newsies, Oliver, and Peter Pan. Ms. Roos' choir captivated the audience with their impressive vocal talents and energetic renditions of these classic tunes. The students' dedication and passion for musical theater were evident in every note, making the evening a memorable celebration of the arts.
The performance not only showcased the incredible talent of our students but also highlighted the importance of arts education in fostering creativity and self-expression. The PTA's Celebrate the Arts night provided a wonderful platform for our young performers to shine and share their love for musical theater with the community. We are immensely proud of Ms. Roos and her choir for their hard work and the joy they brought to everyone in attendance. This event was a true testament to the vibrant artistic spirit at Patch Elementary School.

As we enter allergy season, we want to ensure the health and well-being of all our students. If your child has known allergies or has been newly diagnosed with allergies, please inform the school nurse as soon as possible. This will help us provide the necessary support and care for your child during school hours.
Additionally, we have noticed several cases of pink-eye (conjunctivitis) among students. To prevent the spread of this infection, we kindly ask you to remind your children to wash their hands frequently and avoid touching their eyes.
Here are some tips for managing allergies:
- Avoid allergens: Try to minimize exposure to known allergens, such as pollen, dust, and pet dander.
- Keep windows closed: During high pollen seasons, keep windows closed to prevent allergens from entering your home.
- Use air purifiers: Consider using air purifiers to reduce indoor allergens.
- Wash hands and face: Encourage your child to wash their hands and face after being outside to remove allergens.
- Medications: Ensure your child takes any prescribed allergy medications regularly.
- Clean regularly: Regularly clean and vacuum your home to reduce dust and other allergens.
Reminder: All medications needed at school should be processed through the school nurse. This ensures proper administration and safety for all students.
Our goal is to maintain a safe and healthy community. If you have any questions, please contact me at Bethzaida.matos@dodea.edu. We hope you have a great and safe weekend.
